<title>estimation of soil organic carbon stocks</title>
<para>In order to estimate Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stocks following different land use/cover layers of Patako forest and its adjacent agrosystem, composite soil samples were taken based on a stratified random method, taking into account soil distribution. The survey was performed in 2015 on forested layers (shrub savanna, woodland, gallery forest and mangrove) and agricultural layers including new agroforest plantation. Data were collected in 28 randomly selected sites. In each site, the sampling design consisted of a square of 400 m2 in which 6 points were arranged on the diagonals. The composite soil samples were taken at over a total depth of 40 cm with 2 sampling levels. The first level was the depth interval 0-20 cm and the second one, 20-40 cm. The samples from each level were neatly mixed and placed in bags for laboratory analysis. At least, 30 samples were collected in the forested land and 26 in the agricultural area. Information related to site cover description and environmental conditions were also collected.</para>
