The leaves of C. adansonii are consumed, the roots of S. latifolius are used for the treatment of several illnesses and the wood of B. africana is exploited for house building. Because of a general decrease of woodland cover and biodiversity loss, it is necessary to investigate how people react if a given species becomes rare or disappears. Therefore we conducted a survey in seven villages in South-western Burkina Faso considering a substitute usage in case of decrease or extinction of the three investigated species. A semi structured questionnaire was used. The respondents are Dagara, Lobi and Birifor which are among the main ethnic groups of the region.</para>
<keywordSet><keyword>biodiversity</keyword><keyword>burkina faso</keyword><keyword>ecosystem services</keyword><keyword>substitut</keyword></keywordSet><intellectualRights><para>Obtain permission from data set owner(s)</para></intellectualRights><coverage><geographicCoverage><geographicDescription>South-western region of Burkina Faso (West Africa)</geographicDescription><boundingCoordinates><westBoundingCoordinate>-3.3264</westBoundingCoordinate><eastBoundingCoordinate>-2.7681</eastBoundingCoordinate><northBoundingCoordinate>10.925</northBoundingCoordinate><southBoundingCoordinate>9.8531</southBoundingCoordinate></boundingCoordinates></geographicCoverage><temporalCoverage><rangeOfDates><beginDate><calendarDate>2014-01-01</calendarDate></beginDate><endDate><calendarDate>2014-03-01</calendarDate></endDate></rangeOfDates></temporalCoverage><taxonomicCoverage><generalTaxonomicCoverage /><taxonomicClassification><taxonRankName>Species</taxonRankName><taxonRankValue>Crateva adansonii</taxonRankValue></taxonomicClassification><taxonomicClassification><taxonRankName>Species</taxonRankName><taxonRankValue>Sarcocephalus latifolius</taxonRankValue></taxonomicClassification><taxonomicClassification><taxonRankName>Species</taxonRankName><taxonRankValue>Burkea africana</taxonRankValue></taxonomicClassification></taxonomicCoverage></coverage><contact><individualName><givenName>Albert</givenName><surName>Kabor&#233;</surName></individualName><organizationName>Universit&#233; polytechnique de Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso/UNDESERT</organizationName><address /><electronicMailAddress>kaborealbert64@yahoo.fr</electronicMailAddress></contact><methods><methodStep><description><section>
