Phylogenetic and functional diversity data; birds, plants, and scripts

This dataset contains the morphological traits of 67 frugivorous birds and 47 fleshy-fruited plants that were linked via fruit removal in Colombia, Risaralda (National Park Santuario de Fauna y Flora Otún Quimbaya and Parque Regional Ucumari). In addition, there is information of 112 species of seedlings that recruited in the study area. These data were used for the third chapter of the doctoral thesis of Marcia Carolina Muñoz Neyra. The third chapter was published in Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution, with the title “Phylogenetic and functional diversity of fleshy-fruited planta are positively associated with seedling diversity in a tropical montane forest” in July 2017. See details of the methodology in the paper. Bird data. It comes from three natural history museums in Colombia (Instituto de Ciencias Naturales in Bogotá, Museo de la Universidad del Valle and Museo de Ciencias Naturales Federico Carlos Lehman). The variable bill width is given in milimeters (mm), body mass in grams. Bird density was recorded in each plot of the study area. There were 10 plots distributed every 100 m elevation, between 1800 m and 2700 m elevation. Phylogeny of birds. It was obtained from the website “BirdTree.org”. With the program BEAST was obtained the consensus tree. Plant data. The plant information was recorded in the laboratory and the field. I obtained an average per plant species. The fruit size is giving in milimeters (mm), and the height of the plants in meters (m). Plant density was recorded in each plot of the study area. Phylogeny of plants. It was obtained from “Phylomatic version 3.0”, and the branch lengths were dated with Phylocom 4.2. Seedlings data. Most of the data was recorded during the fieldwork, but the seed mass for 35 species were obtained from this website “Kew Royal Botanical Garden” and four bibliographic references. Seed mass was given in grams (g). Inside each plot there were 60 subplots where it was recorded the seedling density for 112 species. Phylogeny of seedlings. It was obtained from “Phylomatic version 3.0”, and the branch lengths were dated with Phylocom 4.2. Scripts. Each script corresponds to the main analysis executed for each manuscript, a paper in OIKOS, Basic and Applied Ecology, and Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution.
