Abstract of publication: The Fungus gnats (Diptera: Bolitophilidae, Diadocidiidae, Ditomyiidae, Keroplatidae, Mycetophilidae) from the forest of the Dresdner Heide in Saxony - a contribution to the Diptera fauna of Germany. – Between 2013 and 2021, the fungus gnats fauna of the Dresdner Heide forest area was recorded at 16 locations using malaise traps and occasionally manual nets. Study sites, trapping methods, preparation, species identification and collection storage are described. The original data are provided as an electronic supplement and in the online portal “Insects of Saxony”. A total of 53,478 individuals in 368 species of Bolitophilidae (3 species), Diadocidiidae (2 species), Ditomyiidae (2 species), Keroplatidae (29 species) and Mycetophilidae (332 species) are recorded. These include five species of Mycetophilidae that cannot be assigned to any known species, and two species complexes with two or three species, respectively. 18 species are recorded for the first time in Germany: Brachycampta bohemica Ševčík, 2004, Exechia dentata Lundström, 1916, Exechiopsis davatchii Matile, 1969, Leptomorphus forcipatus Landrock, 1918, Mycetophila bartaki Ševčík, 2004, Mycetophila deflexa Chandler, 2001, Mycetophila karpathica Landrock, 1925, Mycetophila poloninensis Ševčík, 2004, Mycetophila sigmoides Loew, 1870, Mycetophila triangularis Lundström, 1912, Mycetophila venabula Maximova & Subbotina, 2010, Mycomya obliqua Say, 1824, Phronia gagnei Chandler, 1992, Pseudexechia tuomikoskii Kjærandsen, 2009, Sceptonia hamata Ševčík, 2004, Sciophila arizonensis Zaitzev, 1982, Sciophila persubtilis Polevoi, 2001 and Sciophila silvatica Plotnikova, 1962. This increases the number of described fungus gnats species recorded from Germany to 768. Additionally, there are eight unidentified or undescribed species. With a total of 368 known species of fungus gnats, the forest area of the Dresdner Heide belongs to the best studied fungus gnats areas in Central Europe. We attribute this high diversity not only to the comprehensive investigations, but also to the fact that the Dresdner Heide has a habitat tradition as a forest area that has lasted for many millennia, which enables the development of such a diversity over space and time.
